US President Joe Biden arrived in Seoul on Friday evening.

Seoul:

A member of US President Joe Biden’s advance security team has been arrested in Seoul on charges of drunkenly assaulting a South Korean national a day before Biden’s visit, police said Friday.

A member of the team, who works for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, was arrested after a fight with a taxi early Thursday, a Yangsan district police official told Reuters.

The incident took place outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where Biden is expected to stay.

The police officer did not give the name of the suspect or any other information.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House referred the question to the Secret Service, which did not immediately respond.

The Department of Homeland Security includes the Secret Service, the agency that monitors the president. In the past, members of the Secret Service have been involved in periodic abuse abroad.

Biden arrived in Seoul on Friday evening, the first stop of his first trip to Asia as South Korean president.

A South Korean broadcaster, TV Chosun, who first reported the incident, said the suspect was in his 30s and was arrested after calling police, including a guest at the hotel.
