At least one person was killed and 13 others were injured in an explosion in Karachi

A bomb blast near the Pakistani city of Karachi has killed at least one person and injured 13 others. The blast in the country’s largest city was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) mounted on a motorcycle on busy Dr Dawood Pota Road, Deputy Inspector General of South Sharjeel Kharal told local media.

Video footage from the scene posted on social media shows smoke billowing from a sudden flash as pedestrians flee the area. Other clips show multiple wrecked cars and motorcycles and emergency vehicles intercepting traffic as they tried to enter the chaotic scene.

Another source told local media that the IED attached to the motorcycle had exploded from a distance. A government vehicle was reportedly passing by at the time of the blast.

A state of emergency has been declared at a public hospital in Karachi, and four people injured in a ball bearing at a hospital are in critical condition.

A bomb disposal team has been called to the area, and the police’s counter-terrorism department is said to be at the scene.
