AstraZeneca’s Covid jab has been approved for use in the European Union as a booster or third jab, the British drug giant confirmed on Monday.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union’s drug monitoring body, released the news on Thursday.
“AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria, has been approved by the EMA as the third dose booster for adults,” the company said in a statement.
“Healthcare professionals can now use Vaxzevria as a third dose booster for those who were previously given the initial vaccine schedule for Vaxzevria or an EU-approved mRNA Covid-19 vaccine.”
The EMA concludes that “there is ample evidence of increased immunity after the third dose booster with Vaxgevria”, it added.
AstraZeneca, along with Oxford University, quickly built its successful COVID-19 JAB during the epidemic.
The group announced last month that sales of Vauxhallus quadrupled to $ 1.15 billion in the first quarter, despite a 40 percent drop in Europe where the epidemic was controlled by vaccinations.
However, AstraZeneca warned in April that Covid’s revenues, including Vauxhallus, would decline this year as the health crisis eased.
