Johnny Depp was a “red wine drinker” with his ex-girlfriend and actress Ellen Barkin.
Washington:
Johnny Depp was jealous, restrained and frequently drunk and once threw a bottle of wine at his hotel room in Las Vegas, his ex-girlfriend, actress Ellen Barkin, testified in a pre-recorded testimony on Thursday.
Burkin, 68, testified as a witness in the defamation suit filed against Depp by his ex-wife Amber Hard, saying he had a brief “sexual relationship” with Depp in the 1990s.
Burkin’s testimony was videotaped in November 2019 and played out in favor of a seven-member jury hearing the defamation suit in Fairfax County Circuit Court, Virginia.
The jury also heard testimony from Depp’s former talent agent, his former business manager and 36-year-old Hardy’s agent, who accused Depp of domestic violence.
Depp, 58, has denied hitting Hard or any other woman during his four days at the Witness stand, claiming he was the one who was most often violent.
Burkin said they had been together for several months, Depp was often drunk and extremely jealous.
“He was drunk a lot of the time,” he said. “He was a red wine drinker.”
“He’s just a jealous man, controlling – ‘Where are you going? Who are you going with? What did you do last night?'” He said.
“I once had a scratch on my back that made her very angry because she insisted it came to me from having sex with someone she wasn’t.”
Burkin recounted an incident during the filming of the 1998 film “Fear and Hate in Las Vegas”.
“Mr. Depp threw a bottle of wine across a hotel room in Las Vegas,” he said.
“I don’t know why he threw the bottle,” Barkin said, although he recalled that Depp may have had an argument with friends or his assistant.
– ‘Amateur Behavior’ –
Depp sued Hard for an op-ed for the Washington Post in December 2018, in which he described himself as a “public figure representing domestic violence.”
Hard, who starred in “Aquaman,” did not name Depp in the op-ed, but filed a lawsuit against him alleging he was a domestic abuser and seeking $ 50 million in damages.
Texas-born Hard demanded 100 100 million and claimed he had suffered “a lot of physical violence and torture” at his hands.
Depp’s former agent and business manager testified that the actor’s career and financial problems were already serious problems before Hard first accused him of domestic violence in 2016.
Depp’s former agent, Tracy Jacobs, said she had “become the biggest star in the world” for decades when she represented him in Hollywood.
But his reputation has waned since 2010 because of “amateur behavior,” Jacobs said, including drug and alcohol use and consistently late sets.
“The crew doesn’t like to sit for hours on end to show the movie star,” he said. “It’s a small community and it makes people reluctant to use it to the end.”
Jacobs said Depp was in such “financial frustration” in January 2016 that he approached the company and demanded $ 20 million.
– ‘Extremely anxious’ –
Josh Mandel, Depp’s former business manager, said he was “extremely concerned” about Depp’s financial situation in 2015.
Depp was at one time spending $ 300,000 a month on full-time employees.
There were “constant” conversations about reducing his costs, he said, but it “never seemed to happen.”
Herds agent Jessica Kovasevic said the “incessant tweets and negativity” against the actress after Depp was accused of abuse had severely damaged her career.
Depp fired Mandel in 2016 and later sued the actor. They settled the case in 2018.
In 2016, Depp fired Jacobs.
Depp’s lawyers have placed experts who have testified that the actor lost millions because of allegations of abuse, including a $ 22.5-million salary for the sixth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Depp filed a defamation suit in the United States after losing a separate defamation suit in London in November 2020, accusing The Sun of calling him “wife-Peter.”
Depp, a three-time Oscar nominee, and Hard married in February 2015. Their divorce was finalized two years later.
Judge Penny Azcaret set May 27 to conclude arguments in the case.
