Moscow:

Ukraine’s Moscow-backed separatist forces said on Friday they had captured Lyman, a strategic city on the road to key eastern cities controlled by Kiev.

Together with Russian troops, separatist forces have “liberated and taken full control of 220 settlements, including Krasny Liman,” the breakaway region of Donetsk said, using an old name for the city on its telegram.

No immediate confirmation was received from Russia or Ukraine.

Located north of the East Donetsk region, Lyman is located on the streets of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, the capital of the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk.

Moscow is concentrating on securing and expanding its gains in Ukraine, near the Russian border and home to pro-Kremlin separatists, as well as in the Donbass region on the south coast.

Russian and Moscow-appointed officials in the southern Kherson region, which is under the full control of Russian troops, and in the southeastern Zaporizhiya region have said both regions could be part of Russia.
