Quad Meet: Joe Biden and Anthony Albanese are set to hold separate bilateral talks.

Tokyo:

It is one thing to wish a newly elected fellow world leader, but it is another thing to wish good night to US President Joe Biden and Anthony Albaniz of Australia.

Meeting at the Quad Summit in Tokyo on Tuesday – a separate grouping from Australia, India, Japan and the United States – Biden praised Albany’s long flight since winning his election as Prime Minister.

“I welcome you to your first quad meeting,” said Biden, who had to travel a long way from Washington for his first president’s trip to Asia, starting with South Korea before heading to Japan.

“Like I said, you got on a plane – you swore and got on a plane,” Biden said.

So “OK if you fall asleep while you’re here, because I don’t know how you’re doing it. It’s really awesome – just get off the campaign trail.”

Following the Quad Summit, Biden and Albanese will hold separate bilateral talks.

Biden will also hold separate meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while Albanese will hold talks with Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishidar.
