Houston:

Two were killed and at least a dozen were injured in what became known as the Texas Primary School shooting on Tuesday, police and a local hospital said.

Local police say a suspect has been taken into custody after a shooting at Rob Elementary School in the town of Uvalade, a small community just over an hour west of San Antonio.

Uvalade Memorial Hospital reported on Facebook that 13 children had been transferred there for treatment. It said two people were killed on arrival.

Although preliminary reports said the two dead were children, the hospital did not specify the age of the victims.

Despite repeated genocide shootings and a nationwide wave of gun violence, multiple gun reform initiatives in the US Congress have failed, leaving states and local councils to enact their own restrictions.

The United States killed 19,350 firearms in 2020, about 35 percent more than in 2019, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
