Ukraine's Zelensky says Russia has 'completely destroyed' the Donbass region

Ukraine war: “It’s hell there – and it’s not an exaggeration,” Zelensky said Thursday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Russian forces had “completely destroyed” the industrial Donbass region and accused Moscow of intensifying its attacks as well as carrying out senseless bombings.

Zelensky further alleges that Russian forces tried to kill as many Ukrainians as possible and did as much damage as possible, reiterating his allegation that Russia was carrying out a genocide.

Zelensky said that while Ukrainian forces continued to liberate the Kharkiv region east of Kiev, Russia was trying to exert more pressure on Donbass in southeastern Ukraine.

“It’s hell there – and it’s not an exaggeration,” he said in a video message late at night, adding that 12 people had been killed in a “brutal and” absolutely stupid bombing “in Severodonetsk on Thursday.

“(There) in the Odessa region, cities in central Ukraine are under constant attack. Donbass has been completely destroyed,” he said.

“This is a deliberate and criminal attempt to kill as many Ukrainians as possible, destroying as many homes, social facilities and enterprises as possible.”
