The U.S. Air Force has announced that it has successfully tested an air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) hypersonic missile over the weekend.

The U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress successfully launched an AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW, off the coast of Southern California, May 14, according to a press release.

“After being detached from the aircraft, the ARRW’s booster ignited and ignited for the expected time, achieving five times the hypersonic speed of sound,” it added.

Lt. Col. Michael Jankuist, 419th FLTS commander, said the test team confirmed that they had completed the test innocently.

“Our highly skilled team has made history with this first air-launch hypersonic weapon. We are doing our best to deliver this game-changing weapon to combatants as soon as possible,” he said.

According to the press release, the ARRW is designed to enable the United States to capture stable, high-value, time-sensitive targets from risky distances in a competitive environment. It will also extend the precision-strike capability by enabling quick response strikes against heavily protected ground targets.

This comes after the AUKUS alliance, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, announced plans to work together to build high-speed weapons. The United States, China and Russia are among the top countries leading the way in hypersonic weapons, whose speed and maneuverability make them difficult to track and intercept.

Earlier, the United States tested a hypersonic missile in mid-March.
