At a time when digital payment technology is advancing rapidly, a London woman has launched an online petition calling for “stop replacing people with machines”. The change.org petition is against the self-service automatic kiosk at Tesco.
“You can’t talk to a machine,” said Pat McCarthy, 69 BBC.
There are many like Mrs. McCarthy who say the new self-service tiles are too slow, and her petition has more than 100,000 signatures.
“These new teals are not accessible to people who do not have a credit card and can only use cash or who are a little confident in using these self-service card-only teals – I am included” The system now makes 3/4 teles at Tesco.
Mrs McCarthy further stated in the petition that she prefers to chat with staff since she lives alone, but “now that experience has been taken away from me”.
A Tesco spokesman said BBC That human staff is “absolutely vital to our store” and that they will “always be at hand to help our customers”.
Those who shared the application on Twitter are using the hashtag #BringBackTescoStaff.
